It requires communities to invest in the social bonds and trusted institutions that provide resistance to manipulation. And it requires individuals to cultivate the cognitive habits that make them less vulnerable to the emotional exploitation that 5GW depends upon.
Jim Morrison was right that whoever controls the media controls the mind. But the inverse is also true: whoever controls their own mind, who can pause before the outrage reflex, question the source before the share, and recognize the emotional manipulation in the content designed to enrage them has already won a significant battle in the war they did not know they were fighting.
